Analogue TV

There seem to be no regulations dealing with subtitling, sign language or audio description.

Some broadcasting licences by the National Broadcasting Council of Poland contain provisions concerning the broadcaster’s commitments to facilitate access for deaf and hearing impaired people. On this basis, broadcasters (in particular movie channels) are required to provide subtitling.

Digital TV

There seem to be no policy initiatives dealing with the accessibility of digital TV in Poland.

Other initiatives

The Polish ublic television broadcaster appears to be the only broadcaster who provides subtitling of national language programs and signing. More than 30 hours of new programs with subtitles are provided per month, mainly films, popular series, educational programs, and documentaries. There are plans to extend subtitling to live sport and news programmes. The subtitling is done in cooperation with the Polish Association of the Deaf. There are also some sign language programmes, including news programmes.

Also, on the public broadcaster’s website there is a section devoted to disabled viewers. This includes a program guide listing all programs provided with access services. Additionally, the website provides disabled viewers with information about events, news, changes in law, technology devices, etc.
